Patricia Williams has been both Hastings’ girlfriend of at least 25 years, Hastings told the Palm Beach Post, and a congressional staffer in his office for 27 years.

Not to sound overly cynical, but it’ s easy to find dirt on just about anyone in the house or senate, and finding a hypocrite is like like finding used gum on the subway. Like the gum, it needs to be left there.
We need to get past these attacks on character (on both side, man alive) and focus on facts, rule of law, and sound logic. This “but they said!” and “you would say that!” crap is the worst kind of childish grandstanding and bluster that serves only one purpose - divide.

I wonder if Hastings’ vote for impeachment has a price attached, like perhaps a favorable outcome in the ethics probe. If it isn’t, he may not be a very savvy politician and should probably be removed for that.

I wouldn’t want to get into a competition on corrupt congressmen by party, as entertaining as it may be. Fuck it. Here’s a list from 2018 showing all the congressmen indicted while in office going back to 2005. In that list, the republicans had the lead 5-4.
ALL corruption needs to be eliminated, but one party has shown to be much more willing to force our members who screw up.

Yeah, but we’re not in a trial here (yet) . Impeachment proceedings are the first step towards making the case to remove him from office; and that isn’t even talking about making legal moves against him ... At this point, if any Dem involved has skeletons in their closet, it becomes a talking point that detracts from the goal of removing a president that is abusing his position. Hastings is not the person to be carrying that torch.
It’s all pomp and circumstance at this point; no legal case has been against Trump yet, and the Dems continue to fail at making anythi ng stick long enough to get him into a courtroom.

A nything we do overseas is directly related to our national security, abandoning areas to the Russians like bases in Syria or letting them get in bed with the Saudis etc... makes it harder to keep our national security manageable. I was a military intelligence officer, you want the fewest number of radical and independent threats out there, all this chaos causes migration and death. Trump is staggeringly stupid, he even pulled the ambassador from Ukraine (who is very good at their job ) as the new leader was to be inaugurated . He apparently likes to leave positions unfilled or to place someone totally incompetent in them . Trumps reputation for being a liar is a threat to national security, how things are perceived matters, others don’t agree to things or even come to talk when they think they will get burned. In Afghanistan we had locals that wouldn’t meet with us because some of our predecessors jerked them around .

I don’t think Trump is stupid. His goal isn’t national security. Guys like him want chaos. Opens up opportunities for them. Milton Friedman style.
He’ll have SS protection for his family for the rest of his life, and isn’t concerned about Putin putting lead in his head if a business deal goes wrong.
